It’s just a chart for the most part, but there’s something about the Gartner Hype Cycle that triggers me… oh, right, it reminds me of blockchain and the realization that I could have spent the two years I devoted to it on more worthwhile pursuits.
I for one would love to see meaningful innovation in blockchain, but the harder I try to see beyond the countless crypto scams and overpriced non-things (a.k.a. NFTs) cluttering my reading list (in contrast to the apparent dearth of news or literature on enterprise or public-good implementations in the last few years), the more convinced I am that the blockchain is a solution without a problem.
“Be the change you want to see in the world,” they say, but I’ll pass on this one… perhaps until something truly transformative comes out of it.
But at least it made for a good technology management lesson.
